I offer specialised maternity reflexology – during pregnancy, postnatally – and preconceptual treatments for those experiencing fertility issues.
One of the major benefits of reflexology is the balancing of the endocrine system, the set of glands that produce the body’s hormones. Hormones play a key role in fertility and pregnancy and can be affected by stress. In these days of high pressure careers and increased debt, as well as the underlying worry of infertility, stress could be one of the big reasons why couples are not getting pregnant. Experiencing fertility issues can be a highly stressful and tense time for both partners. There is no doubt that stress can play a significant factor in an individuals ability to conceive. That is why it is often preferable to focus on the issues of stress for the first few weeks or months. By taking this approach and helping with any appropriate lifestyle changes, a number of women may get pregnant simply because they have been able to reduce their anxieties and improve their health. This reduction in stress levels may have a positive impact on their endocrine system.
Reflexology may help in promoting fertility by:
- Regulating the menstrual cycle
- Achieving deep relaxation
- Supporting and balancing the body through IVF cycles
- Alleviating stress and tension
- Balancing the endocrine (hormone) system
- Bringing about balance to all the body systems
- Using a lymphatic technique to stimulate the immune system
- Increasing energy levels
- Eliminating toxins from the body
- Providing emotional support and time for YOURSELF
Reflexology is one of the most popular complementary therapies used by women before, during and after pregnancy. Reflexology during pregnancy may put you in the best possible condition for whatever type of birth you experience. As your Maternity Reflexologist, I will support you and your growing baby throughout your pregnancy, helping your body to prepare for childbirth. Maternity reflexology encourages relaxation – especially important if you are juggling work commitments, young children….often both!
Research studies have shown that expectant mothers who receive regular maternity reflexology treatments may enjoy much shorter labour times and require significantly less pain relief than those who did not have reflexology.
Most women find that they go through considerable changes over and above the obvious physical ones during pregnancy. Hormones and emotions may become out of balance making some women feel fearful, tearful and vulnerable. Reflexology may help with physical discomforts and calm and soothe anxieties and stresses prior to giving birth. Maternity reflexology treatments will help ensure you are calm and relaxed and help prepare your body in the important time leading up to the birth of your baby.
Reflexology may help with some of the following common problems experienced during pregnancy:
• Morning sickness
• Joint pain
• Water retention
• Sleep problems
Please check with your consultant, GP or midwife if you have previously experienced premature labour, high blood pressure, placenta previa or bleeding before booking a treatment.
I’d recommend reflexology treatments throughout the whole of your pregnancy, I enjoyed monthly treatments during my pregnancy, which I really felt helped relax me, and made me take time to connect in with my body. From 36 weeks I’d recommend weekly treatments to help prepare your body and mind for labour.
Now your bundle of joy has arrived, and your settling into your new role as mum. But your body has just been through a major change with pregnancy and childbirth and it needs time to heal, both physically and emotionally. Reflexology’s rebalancing, harmonising and healing effects can be extremely beneficial at this time.
Postnatal Reflexology Benefits:
- Emotional support, including easing anxiety and postnatal depression
- Rebalancing the hormones, and regulating moods
- Help with breast milk production, & ease breast feeding discomfort.
- Boost your immunity
- Relaxation and “me time”
- Helps digestive problems and constipation
- Boost and maintain energy levels
- Helps regulate your sleep cycle
- Helps the body heal quicker by increasing blood flow to those organs
By taking good care of yourself at this time, means you will be providing the best care for your baby.
You don’t have to leave baby at home, I find babies will relax and sleep on mum during a treatment, which is some lovely bonding time for you both to enjoy. I’m always happy to show you some Reflexology techniques to use on your baby.
