This is an article that I wrote for; for sanitys sake, and I thought i’d share it on here with you.
REFLEXOLOGY FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
ARE YOU FEELING THE PRESSURE OF PARENTING? DEALING WITH A HORMONAL TEENAGER? UP ALL NIGHT WITH AN UNSETTLED BABY? OR STILL TRYING TO CREATE YOUR FAMILY?
Reflexology is an ancient complementary therapy. It is based on the belief that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all organs and parts of the body. Reflexology works on an individual basis and may alleviate and improve symptoms such as everyday stress and tension. It instils a deep sense of relaxation and wellbeing.
Additional suggested benefits are:
- Regulates hormonal issues
- Eliminates toxins
- Lowers cortisol, the stress hormone
- Increases blood flow and circulation
A typical reflexology session lasts 60 minutes, beginning with a medical history. Then, using my thumb and finger, I work on the feet applying pressure and massage to certain reflex areas.
Pregnant mum and baby
Reflexology is one of the most popular complementary therapies used by women before, during and after pregnancy. As your Maternity Reflexologist, I will support you and your growing baby throughout your pregnancy, helping your body to prepare for childbirth. Maternity reflexology encourages relaxation – especially important if you are juggling work commitments, young children….often both!
Your pregnant body goes through so many changes during pregnancy, as well as the physical changes, your hormones and emotions may become out of balance. Reflexology may help with physical discomforts, and calm and soothe anxieties prior to giving birth. Once your baby has arrived there are some great gentle techniques to use on your new born, to settle a crying baby, sooth trapped wind or constipation. They need just a very gentle touch, but I’ve used it successfully on new-born’s in my care before.
Sporty family member
For the runners in the family, there is research (by the Bonash University, Australia) that shows reflexology can remove lactic acid from the legs four times faster than a regular massage. For regular runners this can be a huge advantage to a speedier recovery. Add in the increased circulation and lowered cortisol and reflexology can be a great tool for the sporty family member.
A little bit about me
I am Lorraine Adams, owner of Toe to soul therapy and I qualified as a reflexologist in 2012. After years of receiving the treatment, which I loved and which considerably helped me, I decided I wanted to share what I thought is a fantastic treatment. So after 17 years of working as a private nanny with young children, I decided to open my own treatment room in Twickenham. The nannying has given me an insight into how busy family households run, and where support is needed, which is why I believe reflexology can help the whole family.
